Book Review for The Sicilian Inheritance by Jo Piazza
Image from Amazon

Dual plot lines set in the present day and the early 1900s, full of Italian culture, and a murder mystery are all packed into The Sicilian Inheritance by Jo Piazza, making it a must-read!

I wasn't sure if I would like the book when reading the summary, but I quickly fell in love by the end of the second chapter. I couldn't put down the book full of family folklore and history.

Sarah has hit rock bottom in her life with her marriage over, her ex-husband fighting her for custody of her daughter, and having to close her beloved restaurant and file for bankruptcy. On top of all of that, her great aunt, whom she loved so much and was so close to, has passed away.

Sarah's Aunt Rosie has left her a mission to find out what happened to her mother, Serafina ( Sarah's great-great grandmother), as there are many stories that she may have been murdered, or that she was a witch in a small village in Sicily. There is also a plot of land that Serafina has passed down to Sarah that she can sell to help her financial situation. Rosie has left Sarah an all-expenses-paid trip back to Sicily to solve the family mystery.

The story is told from dual points of view. Sarah on her trip to Italy to find out what happened and her great-great-grandmother Serafina in the early 1900s. Each plotline intertwines with the other as Sarah looks for answers and explores her heritage, and Serafina tells her life story.

Each storyline is well written so that you can see the two generations coming together in Sicily. Each woman is strong in her way for their generation while drawing clear family lines.

I loved all of the characters and plot lines, I couldn't get enough of them, and I couldn't stop reading or thinking about this book after I finished it.

The Sicilian Inheritance by Jo Piazza is a must-read that should be added to your TBR.
