This was such a fun series to read and I am so glad I read both books back to back. I loved the characters, comic relief, but also watching each character grow throughout both stories.
In the first book The Guncle we meet Patrick, Masie, and Grant. The three are forced to pave relationships after Maisie and Grant's mother Sarah dies and their father has to go to rehab leaving Patrick to watch them for the summer, each dealing with grief in their own way. The reader gets to experience the three bond, learn, and share a lot of laughter throughout the book.
The second book in the series The Guncle Abroad takes place five years later and while so much has changed very little has changed for Patrick and the kids. While everyone is a little older the kids father Greg has also decided to remarry leaving everyone with mixed emotions. But the adventures and laughs don't stop as they travel across Europe while continuing to learn and be on the path to self discovery.
I loved both books in the series but I found myself laughing more throughout the second book. The series as a whole is warm, fun, and perfect if you are in a reading slump or if you need a good pallet cleanser.
