It might be my new favorite book!

If You Would Have Told Me by John Stamos is one of my favorite memoirs, and while listening to the first chapter I wasn't sure I would even finish the book. John Stamos reads the audible version and the story comes alive while listening, you can hear his sense of humor, compassion, and emotions as he reads the book.
As a true nineties kid, I only knew Stamos as Uncle Jesse on Full House, along with other smaller roles throughout his career. Other than that I didn't know much about the fun-loving Elvis-obsessed uncle.
John does not have your typical celebrity story or beginnings while he did struggle with substance abuse and the party lifestyle of Hollywood over the years. John comes from a typical middle-class family whom he remains close to even after losing both his parents, they instilled value in him that he still lives by today. The actor has deep feelings, always wanted a family of his own, and most importantly strong work ethic that he thanks his dad for.
John talks extensively about his career and the highs and lows of Hollywood. While we may all just remember his most infamous sitcom character Uncle Jesse, he has had successful stints on Broadway, TV, and movies, and even performing regularly with The Beach Boys.
While John talks a lot about his career in his memoir he also talks about his work ethic and how important that has always been for him. I found this part of the book the most interesting and inspirational, John is an example of how when you put your mind to something and work hard you will succeed. Something we all need a reminder of from time to time.
In his personal life, he had lots of adventures with family and friends, the stories he tells about his friends are a wide range of celebrities from Don Rickles to Bob Saget. John talks about his friendships and relationships how much he cares for his friends and how important they are to him. I loved hearing the celebrity stories and behind-the-scenes gossip you get from celebrity memoirs.
I truly loved everything about this memoir from the celebrity stories to how he built his career, the wonderful advice he gave throughout the book, and how he worked not to let Hollywood change him.
If you are looking for a celebrity memoir to read I highly recommend this book, it will have you feeling inspired, laughing, crying, and cheering John Stamos on the entire way through the memoir.
