Finding Your Author

It can be helpful in your reading journey!

One of the most important parts of falling in love with reading and your reading journey is finding an author you love and finding the ones you don't care for.

When I first started reading I didn't have a favorite author and didn't know what I liked and didn't like reading. When someone suggested a book I would read it and maybe I enjoyed it or might have struggled through it, but I never dove into the author's other books or tried to steer away from their writing if I wasn't a fan.

The more I started reading and finding books I loved the more reading became a hobby and I found authors that I enjoyed reading and exploring their other books.

This speaks truly of one of my favorite authors Taylor Jenkins Reid. I fell in love with The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo. At the time she had some other popular books like Daisy Jones & The Six and as I started to read more and more of her books I became a true fan of her writing and novels. Finding an author I liked helped my reading journey that much more. It also creates excitement to get into the book and read it.

On the flip side, there are certain authors that everyone loves and raves about but I have not had luck with their books. There is nothing wrong with the author the books are just not for me and my reading journey.

A huge part of my reading journey has been finding authors I like to read and learning what I don't like.

Don't know where to start in the process? If you have a book you loved read another by the same author. Find genres you like and see other authors with similar writing styles. It takes time and a little experimenting but is worth it.
