"It Ends With Us" and "It Starts With Us"

I might be one of the only people who hasn't read this series until now, but I just finished it, and here are my thoughts. While I did reviews on both books individually I wanted to look at the series as a whole.
The Hype
I liked It Ends With Us is better than It Starts With Us and as a series, I thought it was good but not my favorite. Both books were good and you got to see Lilly's entire story all the way through. I could also see why it would go viral but the series was overhyped.
The Characters
It Ends With Us tells the story of Lilly Bloom and her abusive relationship with her husband Ryle Kincaid and her past relationship with Atlas Corrigan and it is told from Lilly's perspective only. The second book It Starts With Us is told from Lilly and Atlas' perspective as Lilly deals with the aftermath of her marriage to Ryle and building a life with Atlas. I didn't love the chapters in It Starts With Us that were told by Atlas as much, I wish both books were just told from Lilly's perspective.
The series does not have a lot of characters and the main and secondary characters are present throughout the entire series making it easy to follow along and keep track of all of them. I liked Lilly as the main character in the series.
The Story Line
The storyline does not have a lot of twists and turns as it follows Lilly's life and how it has been affected by domestic violence by both her father and Ryle. With journal entries from her past, she talks about her high school boyfriend Atlas who she crosses paths with in Boston.
I read the books back to back so the first book was fresh when I started the second book but the second book does pick up where the first left off so it is easy to follow and get right back into the series.
I would recommend It Ends With Us or It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover but I wouldn't say it was my favorite book or series. If you are looking for an easy read this is for you.
